Hello Parents and Guardians!
Welcome to Division 6. My name is Adam Surina and I am excited to be teaching grade 2/3 this year. I am new to Wiltse school, and have enjoyed settling into your warm and welcoming community.
Our class is made up of 4 grade 2 students, and 19 grade 3 students, but I see them as one entity and plan to instruct them at their levels. For math, I will be starting each unit in the grade 2 curriculum, and taking it through to the end of the grade 3 curriculum. For language arts, I will be teaching lessons and units that are relevant to both curricula, and assessing them based on grade-level performance standards. For all of the remaining subject areas, I am planning to teach units that meet the learning standards for both grades. I am hoping to use FreshGrade this year, as my experience with it was very positive last year. Thus, there is likely to be an after school parent meeting in the future where I can teach you about this wonderful piece of software, and address any questions that you might have.
Lately, we have been working on community building. The goal is to provide students with the experiences, tools, and support they need to create and be a citizen of a safe and welcoming classroom community. I am also sneaking-in some assessments. We have begun to settle into some routines, such as journals, silent reading, and read aloud, and have started our study of math with patterning. by the beginning of next month, I look forward to tucking into all of the different subjects for the year.
I look forward to meeting you all at the open house next week!
